Graduates of the Pharmacy Technician Training Program at Dallas Career Institute are prepared for an entry-level position as a Pharmacy Technician in retail and institutional settings. They may find employment with local community pharmacies, hospitals, retail pharmacies, mail-order drug companies as well as insurance companies. Students learn to prepare prescription/medication orders under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, They will also perform pharmacy calculations, comply with federal, state and local regulations, and provide excellent customer service. Additionally, students prepare to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination (PTCE) offered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). Passing the PTCE and receiving the Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) designation is required in order to work as a Pharmacy Technician in Texas. Once graduates receive their CPhT designation, they have two years from the date they began their training to register with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy as a CPhT.

Our fifteen (15) week Pharmacy Technician training is 598 clock hours.
Morning (9 AM to 1 PM) and Evening (5 PM to 9 PM) options are available.

$250 is due at registration if a payment plan is needed. The remaining balance can then be made in payments up until graduation.
The program cost includes tuition and a book.

Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) – $129.00
Registration with Texas Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician -$54.00 + $34 for fingerprints with IdentoGO.
(Registration as a CPhT with Texas Board of Pharmacy requires passing the PTCE)

We are vendors to Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) and the Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services.

What will I learn?

  • How to help pharmacists dispense prescription medication to customers or health professionals.
  • Help pharmacists with administrative tasks such as processing insurance claims, tracking inventory, and filing paperwork.
Requirements
  • Complete personal interview with the school director
  • Provide proof of being at least 18years of age (drivers license)
  • Provide proof of completion of secondary education (high school diploma or GED certificate)
  • Register with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (Board) as a pharmacy technician trainee
  • Pass a criminal background check that included submission of fingerprints
